A BRUTAL CRIME SCENE GOES OFF THE RAILS

You step into the shoes of James, a police officer dealing with the absolute worst case scenario. Your wife and daughter were just murdered inside your own home.

You start out simply trying to investigate the crime scene and piece together the clues, but the house quickly spirals into an absolute nightmare. The game does not just hold your hand and hand over the answers. You have to actively search through rooms, pry open locked doors, and solve surprisingly clever brain teasers to figure out what actually happened to your family. The lore goes deep, dragging you into tragic backstories involving your daughter Aimee and her grandmother. Everything connects, and the puzzles actually rely on real logic.

STRATEGY, SOUND, AND SURVIVAL

If you just try to blindly sprint through this house, you are going to die instantly.

There is a deeply unsettling, hostile woman stalking the halls, and you absolutely have to rely on your ears to survive. She makes distinct, creepy noises when she gets close. When you hear her coming, your only options are to frantically dive under a bed or hide inside a closet and wait for her to pass. But you are not completely helpless here. The game actually lets you play smart. You can smash a cup or a vase in the kitchen to draw her away from a hallway you need to access. If you are completely sick of hiding in the dark, you can actively scavenge the house for taser parts. Once you build it, you can finally turn the tables, zap her, and buy yourself some precious breathing room.

CONSOLE QUALITY TERROR IN YOUR POCKET

The fact that this entire game runs completely offline without a Wi Fi connection is a massive win.

Whether you are killing time on a flight out of Toronto, riding the Tube in London, or relaxing on a rainy night in Auckland, you don’t need a cellular connection to get scared out of your mind. The 3D graphics are seriously impressive for a mobile title, creating a heavy, suffocating atmosphere. You absolutely must wear headphones while you play this the spatial sound design is what makes the jump scares actually work. Oh, and you aren’t totally alone in this mess. You eventually get a loyal dog companion who actively helps you sniff out hidden clues and keeps you company in the dark.
