Season 5 introduces a much needed breakdown system. You can now aggressively scrap all that useless old equipment, collect the leftover pieces, and craft ridiculously overpowered fishing rods. It gives your old gear an actual purpose and completely changes how you hunt for rare items.

HIRE A CREW AND AUTOMATE THE HUSTLE

You absolutely do not have to grind this out solo. You can build up a massive guild with your friends, clear shared missions, and completely dominate the servers together.

Can’t play because you are stuck at work or sitting in class? Just hire some deckhands. These guys are an absolute lifesaver. They will literally fish for you while your phone is sitting in your pocket. The more deckhands you recruit, the heavier your offline rewards get.

A REEL THAT ACTUALLY FIGHTS BACK

This is why the game is so incredibly addictive. The mechanics just feel right.

You have to actively manage your cast and aggressively wind the reel, fighting the tension so your line doesn’t snap. You start out hooking tiny panfish, but eventually, you are battling absolute monsters. There are over 200 distinct species to track down and log in your Illustrated Book. Once you finally land that elusive trophy catch, you can instantly flex your score to your friends on Facebook, or drop the fish directly into your fully customizable aquarium to admire later.

It is a completely free download, but like nearly any massive mobile title, there are optional in app purchases if you want to speed up your progression or grab specific premium gear. If you are running Android 13 or higher, the app might ask for notification permissions so it can ping you when your deckhands finish a big haul, but you can easily toggle that off if you hate getting buzzed.
