Remember when classic point and click adventure games were just pure, unadulterated magic? Humongous Entertainment absolutely nailed that exact vibe, and Putt Putt Travels Through Time is easily one of their most chaotic rides. Our favorite little purple convertible is literally just trying to grab his school supplies when he makes a quick detour at a sketchy old firework factory that somehow got converted into a high tech research lab. Because dogs will be dogs, his trusty sidekick Pep immediately jumps straight into a glowing, experimental time machine and vanishes. Now, you have to fire up the engine and chase your best friend across different eras to glue the fractured timeline back together.
CHASING YOUR DOG ACROSS THE CENTURIES
The timeline is totally shattered, which actually makes the gameplay incredibly fun. You get to bounce wildly back and forth between dodging massive dinosaurs in the prehistoric past and exploring a weird, highly advanced future.
It isn’t a boring, straight line adventure, either. The environments are ridiculously interactive. You need to click on absolutely everything you see. Snagging a random, seemingly useless item in the Stone Age and realizing it perfectly solves a bizarre puzzle in a completely different century is incredibly satisfying. Because there is no fixed point in time holding you back, you are constantly unlocking weird new mysteries just by poking around and experimenting with the world.
PULLING OVER FOR EPIC MINI GAMES
Sometimes trying to save the space time continuum gets a little too stressful. When your brain needs a solid break from the heavy puzzle solving, the game throws a bunch of genuinely fun, arcade style mini games at you.
It gives you the absolute perfect excuse to just pull over, kick back, and completely ignore the main story for a while. It is that flawless mix of clever brain teasers and casual, bite sized entertainment that makes this specific road trip totally unforgettable.
