Educational math games have a terrible reputation. They usually involve staring at a boring flashcard app or watching a lifeless cartoon owl tell you how great addition is. It is mind numbing.
What if a math puzzler completely ditched the boring tropes and instead leaned into dark humor, lasers, and slicing farm animals in half? That is the glorious, unhinged reality of Divide By Sheep.
THE GRIM REAPER WANTS SOME FRIENDS
The premise is brilliantly twisted. The Grim Reaper is lonely, and since he can only befriend the dead, he decides to orchestrate a massive flood to drag a bunch of innocent sheep down to the underworld.
Suddenly, your woolly friends are stranded on tiny, sinking islands, and it is entirely up to you to math them out of danger. This is a game of addition and subtraction by any means necessary. The stages start out playfully simple, but they quickly escalate into a brutal test of your logic and your stomach.
LASERS, WOLVES, AND CREATIVE CARNAGE
You aren’t just politely herding animals here. You are solving mind bending puzzles that involve flinging sheep directly into high powered lasers.
What happens when a whole sheep crosses a laser? It gets sliced cleanly in half, only to be magically taped back together once it safely lands on your getaway raft. You will be actively drowning sheep, tossing wolves into the mix, and occasionally dealing with the Grim Reaper’s very hungry pet kraken. The art style pulls off an incredible trick, transitioning from deceptively adorable to delightfully disturbing in record time.
120 LEVELS OF DISTURBING MATH
You are getting 120 heavy puzzles spread across four distinct worlds. As critics from PocketGamer and TouchArcade have happily pointed out, it is quirky, deeply brutal, and surprisingly brilliant.
Just a quick reality check for parents: the dark humor is very real. Thankfully, the main menu includes an easy toggle to disable the blood if you want to keep things a bit tamer.
Stop doing math the boring way. Grab a raft, fire up the lasers, and save those sheep.
