Zold: Out Forge Story totally flips that script. You are dropped into the devastated ruins of Inrumos. But instead of playing the typical chosen hero, you are just an unnamed weapon shop owner who accidentally gets dragged into a massive, world ending conspiracy. To survive, you have to recruit a squad of fighters, run your storefront, and completely outsmart some seriously punishing enemies using a wild mix of deck building and gridless chess.
CRAFTING THE ULTIMATE DECK OF DESTRUCTION
You simply cannot survive this game by button mashing. Building your deck is literally everything. You get to play around with a massive arsenal of nearly 200 distinct weapon cards. Every single piece of gear brings its own weird, highly specific abilities to the table.
The real fun kicks in when you start finding those broken synergies where combining two decent cards suddenly creates an absolutely overpowered combo. You have four totally different career paths to mess around with, giving you insane flexibility. Building a balanced party and bringing the exact right weapons to a fight is the only way you walk out alive.
DITCHING THE BORING TRADITIONAL TURN SYSTEM
Forget the slow, predictable “my turn, your turn” setup. This game runs on a deeply stressful, highly tactical action bar system.
The speed of the match is entirely dictated by how you spend your action points. You constantly have to make some seriously tough calls under pressure. Do you blow your entire action bar on one massive, screen clearing strike to wipe out a threat? Or do you hold back, saving your stamina so your characters can quickly dodge out of the way before the enemy retaliates? Your pacing controls the entire flow of the fight. Every single choice carries massive weight.
BREAKING THE GRID WITH SEAMLESS MOVEMENT
I absolutely hate being boxed into rigid little squares in tactical games. Here, the traditional chessboard is completely seamless.
You have a full 360 degrees of absolute freedom to move your squad wherever you want. Because you are no longer locked to a clunky grid, you can pull off some incredibly sneaky flanking maneuvers. Perfect positioning is basically your best weapon. You can effortlessly slide around heavy attacks and surround the enemy if you know what you are doing.
BRUTAL BOSS FIGHTS THAT ACTUALLY TEST YOUR BRAIN
The bosses in this game are not just giant damage sponges waiting to die. The developers clearly spent an insane amount of time designing these encounters to ruin your day.
Every major fight requires a completely different tactical approach. You cannot just blindly use the same strategy that worked in the last zone and expect a win. You have to constantly tweak your deck, shuffle your party around, and come up with weird, on the fly solutions to completely dismantle their specific mechanics. Beating them actually feels like a massive accomplishment.
