If you have been using the old dedicated OBDeleven VAG app to tinker with your daily driver, things are officially changing. The developers finally merged the VAG specific software straight into the main OBDeleven app.

It is time to make the switch.

WHY THE MAIN APP IS A MASSIVE UPGRADE

Having a standalone app just for Volkswagen Group cars was great back in the day, but juggling different software for different cars is incredibly annoying. Now, you get one single, highly optimized dashboard that handles literally everything.

Whether you are coding a fresh BMW in Munich, running deep diagnostics on a Ford truck across the States, or tweaking a Toyota out in Sydney, it all happens in one unified place. Mercedes Benz models are fully supported now, too.

The performance bump is totally noticeable. The connection is far more stable, so it doesn’t randomly drop out right in the middle of a stressful coding session. They rebuilt the whole thing using the absolute latest vehicle access protocols and security standards. And don’t panic you aren’t losing anything. You still get the exact same One Click Apps, manual coding tools, and deep diagnostics you actually care about. They are just faster now.

WHO ACTUALLY NEEDS TO STAY BEHIND?

Hold up before you completely delete the old VAG app off your phone. There are a few very specific, legacy reasons you might be forced to stick with it.

First, if you are wrenching on an older VW Group car from around 2008 or earlier, you are probably dealing with the old K line communication standard. The new app simply doesn’t support it. You also need to stay put if you are lucky enough to be holding onto one of those grandfathered Lifetime VAG PRO plans. Finally, if you are still plugging in the original FirstGen OBDeleven dongle into your OBD2 port, you are permanently anchored to this older app version.
